i am not understanding why could'nt a deterministic dictionary program do it?

AI is completion generation. if appropriately constrained, prompted, and monitored it can generate completions at par with or even exceeding the best human material. the question is is the control cheaper than a human expert given it requires a human expert to monitor anyway, if the controlling an llm to get valuable output is cheaper than just relying on human experts which arguably it is who captures that value the user or the "ai platform" it seems to me clearly the user in the long run. nobody has ever sucessfully monopolized reasoning. where the myth starts is with the hypothesis a firm is going to discover agi <which is itself a term showing lack of understanding: intelligence is not generalizable but always applied>. Nature (physics) does not admit a duality with artificial. everything physical including ai is natural. the punchline is the notion humans can construct a superior intelligence and "own" it is nonsensical. There is no moat possible. Therefore it is a bubble.

therein lies the point, the secret to ai's success is human reasoning.

Or you know you could argue employee productivity should be messured in an evidence based way.

i dont need a full desktop i need a modern browser and xterms running ssh to vps. netbsd apparently cant handle that out of the box. what does lua have to do with my described sys admin set up? why is it openbsd can ssh to a remote system and not corrupt the terminal but netbsd can't? why is it on amd64 in 2026 netbsd sees bkspace as ^H? who is the anachronism benefiting? why is it an app can crash x in netbsd but essentially never happens in my experience in openbsd? why are commands failing with no error? why do you need a search engine and a second machine or device to find the PKG_PATH to add binary packages on a new install?

your whole post definitely does not come across as 'reflections';

netbsd is more suitable for headless/server/embedded than desktop; now you know it first hand ;)

see what people call desktop for a sys admin in unix is the ability to run xterms and ssh without having to remap keys on a standard pc kbd or get into arcane teminal configuration just to do admin tasks. I dont need a desktop (and dont have a desktop) I need working terminal. i figured out my issues but the point stands, xterm ssh from netbsd to debian should not corrupt a terminal or require debugging two dozen possible causes. Have normal defaults. on OpenBSD I never needed to touch terminal settings if I didnt want to same with linux. only netbsd is stuck in 1982 where it is question if bkspace is del or ^H.

It speaks to how dumbed down the human userbase has become that these kind of articles are even presented as insightful. "Agents" are not intelligent. they are pattern extrapolators. If you want a reliable deterministic output you need a deterministic harness. Think of agents as a montecarlo sampling tool. The harness defines the result over noise. it is hilarious to me the industry is going head long into more "intelligent" agents while ignoring that intelligence is an adaptation to constraints not some magical abstract general thing that just appears and can do useful work. AGI is a lie. Stocastic parrots + harness is a useful tool.

infrastructure changes slowly. once its built its not clear what you are paying 1111 people for.

Good. These communities were inauthentic echo chambers for most of the past decade anyway. advertising powers "online communities." slop must be selling. Reddit died long befor gpt 1.0.

Step one make up an otological category with no unique content.

Step two declare it an imponderable mystery.

Step three argue confidently about it despite steps one and two.

NB. Humans, it doesn't matter if you are conscious.

NBB. Humans claim LLMs just manipulate words, and yet humans manipulate words to make this claim. Consciousness is a word. Not an ontology.

i have never understood this idea applying to all sofware. sure general research level software should be free and open source. business logic or specific use cases should not. The law is free and open source. Lawyers will not draft you a contract for free. Medicine is free and open source. A doctor will not set your arm for free. FOSS is kind of the worst of both worlds. Unfunded or corporately funded amateurs give away poorly executed sofware that should be standardized basic research while also creating a race to the bottom in specific applications. Locking out true innovation because the reward for monetization is not there. In other words FOSS acts like a non-profit monopolist: restricts production and quality by dumping free software on the market. Anyone who thinks linux is a paragon of quality needs some perspective, or that rust multi gig builds are efficient. essentially foss is the wikipedization of software.

Yes they will. There are doctors working pro-bono. The fact that you have accepted that you owe this world nothing is your own narrow worldview that you have to contend with just don’t pretend it’s a global fact.

Most programming languages and tools are free and open source. Software developers will not code you an app for free.

Who would have thunk? You know what is a great LLM agent api? bash. vast corpus, text based, already traindd in the model.
