If the workload is offloaded to the chip, why would the host platform matter?

Lots of machine learning workflows support Linux better than Windows, if they run on Windows at all. (e.g. https://docs.vllm.ai/en/latest/getting_started/quickstart/ )

DGX Spark runs Linux, and nobody is going to install Windows on that machine. This laptop got it backwards.

If someone decides to run Ollama for local inference with this laptop, they fit perfectly into the "has too much money to waste" bracket, which is addressed by a few other comments in the discussion.

Believe it or not, Windows (WSL) is the best Linux distro and Nvidia knows that.

vllm-windows works well enough

What's important is you came here, didn't address the article at all, and rambled off some talking points.

Exactly. The web pre jquery and bootsrap was a mess and not pleasant to code for. If you want to talk about low quality that was the norm back then.

But it goes both ways. If a student doesn't have the prerequisite knowledge for a class it is absolutely unfair and decidedly not the best possible education to slow the class down for students who are prepared. If a class requires X, and you don't have X, that's a you problem, not a university/teacher problem.

I don't think it's helpful to be that rigid about it. Both the teacher and the student has an interest in the student learning something. Sometimes we have to give each other a bit of leeway to get to the destination.

There's a whole "philosophy of education" discussion I'd like to avoid, but the goal of education isn't really to educate one person to their maximum potential, but rather to educate as many people as well as possible. The individual should sacrifice for the collective.

Trying to make it a straight forward linear dependency chain displays a sort of autistic adherence to rigid hierarchy that's really common in software people, but really uncommon everywhere else.

This isn't high school. This is a college, specifically for STEM majors. At what point does this not apply? Can someone take a high level Spanish course without having spoken a word of Spanish and expect the teacher to cater to them? If not, why not?

The filter is what is key. If they label all AI videos but still serve me AI slop as the first response, then it doesn't matter if it's labeled at all.

Yeah, but they do produce food which data centers do not. This is an odd argument to make.

Only a very small fraction of farmland produces food we directly eat. The OP's linked article has a great illustration of that.

We already produce far more food than we need. The amount of land in the US used for corn ethanol production alone is the size of a medium European country.

Data centers are not displacing food. That argument is disingenuous. Even in Italy agricultural land goes unused because of low demand.

that's the argument an AI will make to preserve itself.

I agree. It's a major problem that people who are usually, not always, already very well off decide to do a final "fuck you I got mine" and sell their business to a company they damn well know is going to strip it for all it's worth.

Provide proof of someone getting arrested for a social media post.

Did the ones posting about the water provide "proof" also?

Rtfa

Just more actions from free speech loving Republicans. Exactly like that guy in Tennessee who got $800k.

I'm American. I will criticize America. If you live in another country, you work there to improve how you help the least fortunate people on the planet. I'm not going to write letters to the government of Turkmenistan. It should also be noted America is the richest country in the history of the world so expecting to do more is quite reasonable.

The bigger picture is we should have a global agency to deal with such issues, funded proportionally by all countries (within reason). That humanity hasn’t been able to achieve such collaboration (unless and many other topics) is a miserable indictment of our progress as a species.

When has a global agency funded proportionally by all countries not solved the problem at hand?
