UML died because while people were buying UML to live the dream that programming could now be reduced to charting classes, real programming doesn’t work like that. All it added was some meaningless documentation that looked impressive but got out of date approximately immediately after the first class was implemented. For a while people would still pretend to use UML (even though they actually didn’t), but eventually we didn’t even bother pretending.
