I think you have to go all the way back to the 1920s- and 1930s-era radio magazines for a comparable vicarious-zeitgeist vibe.

March 1949 is especially awesome, with articles by Sarnoff and De Forest on the Next Big Thing of the day (television) and, as an afterthought towards the back, an article on NIST's first atomic clock.
