Rather than just carping about the new thing being bad it’d probably be more interesting to engage with the reasoning and talk about other possible solutions. My understanding is the ribbon was introduced because Microsoft got to the point where most feature requests in Word were for features that already existed. The discoverability with the old UI was poor. The ribbon helped. Also, aesthetics are subjective but I think it looks nice and, more importantly, less dexterity is required to click the intended icon.
