i aspire to be "The Unreliable One"

> "They will need to spend time thinking about ways to work around them rather than work with them."

managing expectations and simply not caring about most things are very under rated skills imo.

Not caring is critical, IMO. It's a job, not your life, and everything you think matters can be taken away by the whims of management who have the authority to do so. If they care about something, then you are no longer allowed to.

I really pity kids these days that wrap their whole life’s identity in their work, take every minor criticism as a personal insult, every dislike of their product as a personal attack on their self-worth. It’s understandable why it happens, especially with cynical and conniving companies trying their best to be in every facet of people’s lives, from dog walking to kid day care to social activities “after work”. People should really resist these conveniences and separate their work from their lives.

Unfortunately, with takes like this, most of us will be learning this lesson after we've already overinvested into such an identity. How can we as a society be more proactive?

I’m not sure. I am a cynical person, so I am naturally repelled by these tactics. And by now, I’ve learned to get too attached emotionally to my tech or products. I’m not sure where and how these lessons can be taught to young employees to be.
