edit: Had to uninstall the app because it brings up full page ads when it's not even the current app in focus. This is literally the most obnoxious app I've ever installed. What the fuck?

original post: Thanks for the link. One piece of feedback:

I recommend changing the background -- the current one is extremely distracting and makes it unpleasant to try to read the listings.

You've pointed out some of the US's flaws, but pointing out that one's critic has flaws doesn't justify the shamelessly blunt repression that the Chinese government prides itself on.

If the perception is that US cultural imperialism is so strong that something as extreme as the Golden Shield is necessary, well, I don't buy it. Regardless, it'd be better to solve that problem itself (international corporations that prey on countries via neoliberalism). But the Golden Shield is more about the Chinese Communist Party maintaining power -- hence the drama around "Tiananmen" searches. The defense of the Golden Shield that's based on a criticism of Western influence seems like misdirection and, apparently, successful propaganda.

Should everyone stop trying to make improvements, lest they attract the attention of your self-defeating cynicism?

Yes, and Facebook users are not aware that they are paying for Facebook, so the price comparison is brutal.

Many parts of the general populace don't care about the whole "if you're not paying, you're the product" mentality. They happily ignore as many ads as you want to throw at them, as long as they can coordinate little timmy's birthday party.

The world is complicated :)

Looks interesting. Is it essential to their goals that it be a separate app? I wonder why it's not just a website.

But then it wouldn't be decentralized

Why do you hate to admit that rms was right?

I'm aware :] But my question remains.

Because the dangers of information ownership seems to be the single solitary thing the guy has ever been right about, ever, as evidenced in part by that video which I thought sufficed as a standalone answer.

What are good examples of where he's been wrong?
